Replacement or a first installation?

Tell us whether an existing tank is being replaced or you need a tank in a new location. The request form records your fuel type, location category, preferred timing, and ZIP code. “I’m not sure” is a valid answer for technical details.

What affects the quote?

A useful quote describes the actual equipment and installation work. Ask the contractor to identify the proposed tank, removal of the existing unit, required connection changes, permit handling where applicable, and warranty coverage. We do not publish a price before a contractor has assessed the scope.

Choosing fuel, capacity, and installation scope

Replacing an existing storage tank and changing the system are different decisions. Start with the household’s hot-water demand and the current fuel and location. Ask a contractor whether the proposed equipment fits the available space and connections. A hybrid tank or a move to tankless can involve a different installation scope; this request pilot currently accepts storage-tank work.

Verify permits for the actual work

Permit requirements can depend on whether the job is a qualifying replacement or includes other changes. Use our Mecklenburg permit-verification guide to reach the official sources, then confirm the scope with the contractor and Code Enforcement.
